A Bit Of Graphic Trivia

I happen to pass this street art everyday, why is it there? ... I haven't worked that out yet, as it only covers part of the wall which seems a terrible waste of space when you take into consideration the eco-environment factor that is constantly shoved down ours throats, after all if it were a piece of paper you would be only using a portion of it and would have to throw the rest away.

Why do I like it? ... I don't really know if I do if you consider that I pass it nearly every day and on that way you have to pass Woolworths, and every time I hear the Woolworths jingle (which is several times a day) I inadvertently sing along to it ... but do I like them? ... I just don't know anymore. I'm just a part of the machine I guess. Everything I never wanted to be in life since I learnt about contraceptives and unfortunately didn't use to it's greatest advantage.

TASK 6 - Retro Grahic Design Styles

Above are some examples of digitally created signs and logos that encompasses the ethos of retro design used in contemporary instances.
"The best retro grahic design takes its cue from the minimalist design forms of the mid-century, mimicking the simplicity and subtle imperfections of letterpress and silkscreen printing. Other retro graphic design pays homage to the great sign painters whose elegant letterforms and quircky conventions have forever been ignored by the design critics."
I couldn't say it better mayself, so why would I try!

Task 3: Magazine Article Review

Magazine: DESK TOP: May 2009
Article: PICTURE THIS pg 34
A Trick Of The Light by Jo Spurling

This article gives you an insight into the world and wonders of August Bradley's photographic genius.

It gives a brief discourse on his life and influences before his immersion into conceptual/fashion photography. Upon further perusal his passion becomes tangible as he reveals his artistic perceptions and the elements of his profession that inspire and drive his creative ingenuity to heights that allow him to stand apart from his contemporary peers.

"The fashion and conceptual projects are like sculpture to me, they are very deliberate and planned and every detail is examined and optimized."
- August Bradley

Task 4: Graphic Design Book Review

BASICS ILLUSTRATION: Sequential Images by Mark Wigan
"The BASICS ILLUSTRATION series explores key areas of illustration through a series of case studies juxtaposed with key creative 'basics'. Contemporary work is supported by concise descriptions, enabling the reader to fully understand the work being discussed." - as taken from the back cover

This book is more of a 'how it is' rather than a 'how to do' as it attempts to give an overview of all things related to print and multimedia illustrations. It comes across as more of a reference book for those of the uninitiated 'wannabe' illustrator whom wishes to try their hand at any and all. I would go so far as to say it lacks the ability to inspire even the budding artist with its banal generalities and superfluous enlightenments.

Worth a look in the waiting room but not one to take home.

It's all relevant. It's all inspiring. I reckon we should all give it a go sometime. Maybe as an assignment!
